AMIR SALI, the Paris-trained Filipino master couturier and the country’s “Prince of Beads”, shall once again prove his right to the title with a one-of-a-kind showcase of luster, shimmer and exquisite beadwork – on 30 May 2020 at the world’s fashion capital, Paris.
In an exclusive show slated at the Espace St. Pierre (121 Avenue Achille-Peretti Nueilly Sur Seine, 92200 Paris) and entitled “Luxe Paris: Best of the Islands”, Amir shall have guests gawking at sophisticated and classy masterpieces, from start to finish of the show.
It is, in fact, masterpieces like these which have earned him the loyalty of Saudi royalty and the elite in Saudi Arabia, where he worked for 17 years before choosing to settle back in the Philippines in 2009. This is the reason why his works are so regal in nature.
Paris-trained Filipino designer to Saudi royalty
It is said that during one of his early travels overseas, Amir met a princess from Saudi Arabia, who turned out to be the daughter of then Crown Prince Abdullah, now the present king of Saudi Arabia.
The princess asked him to work for her as a resident designer in the royal palace. Before long, the princess sent him to Paris to study fashion.
Of working in the Arab world, Amir had this to say: "I was initially reluctant to work in the Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia. But the princess allayed my fears because she is herself very artistic and open-minded.”
Almost three decades into the fashion industry, Amir has become known as the “Prince of Beads". This haute couture designer earned this title because each of his creations is a masterpiece of embroidery, beadwork and other embellishment. This title is also testament to the fact that he is top-notch in every aspect of the design process, and he never wants anything less.
“Most of my works have beadwork on them. Some women who come to my atelier tell me that they they’re not a fan of embellishments, but when I explain to them how I plan to execute my design, they end up happily wearing an embellished Amir Sali creation.”
“A woman who wears an Amir Sali creation is a woman of opulence. She is bold and confident, and she is willing to cross borders,” said the designer.
From royals to celebrities, Amir has created stunning dresses for Hollywood personalities like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Halle Berry, and Carrie Underwood.
Always humble and unassuming, this is Amir’s sincere take on fame: “I am not into fame. i would prefer my clothes be worn and seen, rather than my name be popular.”
