MANILA, Philippines — Tyra Goldman, representing the Filipino community of Nevada USA, has been named Mutya Pilipinas Tourism International 2019.
Cheers rang out and celebratory music blared as Tyra Goldman — an 18-year-old college student — accepted the sash, the dazzling crown and a bouquet of flowers on Sunday (August 18, 2019) at the MOA Arena.
For the next year, Tyra will be one of the spokeswomen for the Mutya Pilipinas Charities. Her responsibilities will include performing charitable acts, attending galas and fundraisers, and making special appearances, among many other duties.
Tyra and her supportive family (parents Steve Goldman and Melcah Villamor Florito Goldman and brother Trevor Goldman), hail from Las Vegas. But Tyra, who was born in Massachussets, has since resettled to Cebu City and is studying at the Velez College.
Tyra’s final question on coronation night, asked by pageant emcee and matinee idol Matteo Guidicelli, was: “There is a saying, ‘the best man for the job is a woman’. If this is so, then what should be the best job for a woman?”
Tyra’s answer: “A woman is capable of anything she puts her mind to. No matter what anyone says, she can do whatever she believes. Like my mother tells me, ‘you can do anything you want in this world.’ Thank you.”
Joining Tyra as the country’s newest beauty queens are Klyza Castro of Davao City (Mutya Pilipinas Asia Pacific International 2019), April Short of Zamboanga City (Mutya Pilipinas World Top Model Philippines 2019), and Louise Janica Arroyo An of California (Mutya Pilipinas Miss Overseas Communities 2019).
Tyra is the first overseas community representative to win the right to represent the Philippines in Miss Tourism International (MTI). Tyra takes over from Julieane Fernandez of Taguig City.
MTI shall have its world finals on November 8 at the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
